PREESALL TOWN COUNCIL NEWS
Arrangements for this year's festive lights are being finalised, with the big switch-on scheduled for Saturday, 30 November.
A grant from Wyre Council has been gratefully received for the event, which will get under way at 5pm at the junction of Clarence Avenue and Lancaster Road in Knott End. Pilling Band is booked to provide the festive music and Clarence Avenue will be closed to traffic from 4pm to 6pm.
The town council hopes as many people as possible will attend the switch-on and spread much festive cheer.
The council has decided to make an award for those who do 'unsung' work within the community, whether that be volunteering, helping or keeping things running. If you know of a stalwart helper, group, community volunteer or someone you admire for their work in the community - let us know. More details of the award and a nomination form can be found on the council's website under the 'information' tab or from the clerk at the address below. Nominations will be accepted up to 31 March 2020 and judging will take place in April, with any Star Award recipient being invited to a presentation at the council's mayor making ceremony in May.
Preesall Town Council has decided to sign up to become a dementia-friendly organisation. The council's health leads are looking at how this will best work in practice. The aim is to ensure that the community is a place where people with dementia and their carers are empowered, supported and included in society, understand their rights and recognise their full potential.
At its meeting in November the council will begin to determine its budget for the financial year beginning next April. Organisations considering applying for a grant from the council are therefore advised to apply soon, so the council has an idea of what sums might be required for its grants programme. More information is available on the council's website.
Preesall Town Council will meet next on Monday 11 November 2019 at the Youth and Community Centre on Lancaster Road, from 7pm. This is a public meeting and residents are welcome. An opportunity to raise matters is available.
