PREESALL TOWN COUNCIL NEWS
The Council has decided to make an award for those who do 'unsung' work within the community, whether that be volunteering, helping or keeping things running. If you know of a stalwart helper, group, community volunteer or someone you admire for their work in the community - let us know.
More details of the award and a nomination form can be found on the Council's website under the 'documents'/'information' tab or from the clerk at the address below.
Nominations will be accepted up to 31st March 2020 and judging will take place in April, with any Star Award recipient invited to a presentation at the Council's mayor-making ceremony in May.
VE Day 75
The council will be hosting an event on Friday May 8, which will be a bank holiday. A large-scale event is planned with a 'picnic in the park' and entertainment from 3pm to 7pm. Charities interested in having a stall on the playing field are asked to contact the clerk.
This year Commonwealth Day falls on 9 March, with the theme for 2020 -Delivering A Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming. Invitations have been sent to the schools and churches. The Mayor will raise the Commonwealth Flag at 10am at the Battle of Britain memorial on the Esplanade and read the Commonwealth Affirmation.
Bench on sea wall
Following a request from members of the public for more seating along the sea wall councillors have agreed to purchase an additional bench, to be sited near the ramp leading from Coniston Avenue.
Lancashire Best Kept Village Competition
Following on from last year's success the council has agreed to enter the 2020 contest.
Mayor for the Civic Year 2020/21
Councillor Lynda Woodhouse is to become the next Mayor of Preesall. She will formally take the role at the council's Annual Meeting in May.
Arrangements for Annual Town Meeting 2020
This year's Town meeting will be on 20 April at 6.00pm in the Youth and Community Centre. Further details will be published nearer the time.
Preesall Town Council will meet next on Monday 9 March at the Youth and Community Centre on Lancaster Road, from 7pm. This is a public meeting and residents are welcome. An opportunity to raise matters is available.
